Daruma (だるま・達磨) is a Japanese traditional doll, and a symbol of perseverance and good luck. It is used to set goals by colouring one of the doll’s eyes when setting a goal or making a wish, and colouring the other when that goal has been achieved or that wish came true.
The print features a motivational Japanese proverb:「七転び八起き」(“Nanakorobi yaoki”). Which is translated as “Fall seven times and get up eight”—meaning: When life knocks you down, stand up again and keep trying! This print is a great graduation or back to school present. It is also a great motivational artwork that inspires you to set goals and to work hard at achieving them.
